Robertson elected to RFU Council

FORMER Stourbridge captain Norman Robertson has been elected to the RFU Council as the new representative for the National Clubs Association. Robertson succeeds Midlands-based Sir Hal Miller, the former Conservative MP for Bromsgrove, as the NCA’s representative at Twickenham. Robertson, 62, played for and captain Stourbridge and also represented North Midlands, Worcestershire & Herefordshire and the Midlands and North Under-19s during a distinguished playing career. He subsequently refereed for 20 years and then had two seasons as a touch judge in the National Leagues. His roles in rugby administration include being a committee member at Stourbridge for more than 30 years, chairman from 1997 to 2002 and president from 1995 to 1996. He has served on the committees of Worcestershire & Herefordshire and North Midlands, chaired the North Midlands coaching sub-committee and the North Midlands youth development scheme from 1990 to 1997. Robertson, who set up his own company at 21 and retired at 53, has been a representative on the NCA Executive since 2002.
