Saints Search for Match for Matt
Chris Wearmouth
Northampton Saints have thrown their weight behind the Matt’s Match Campaign, hoping to find 15-year-old Northampton schoolboy Matt Herbert a potentially life saving bone marrow match. Matt, a lifelong Saints fan, student at the Northampton School for Boys and fly half for Old Northamptonians, was diagnosed with leukaemia nearly a year ago. After several rounds of chemotherapy Matt’s leukaemia went into an early remission, but it returned last September and Matt’s survival now depends on a bone marrow transplant. The Matt’s Match Campaign, supported by the Anthony Nolan Trust, held a series of bone marrow clinics in and around Northampton, including two at Franklin’s Gardens. Said Sian Haynes, Saints Head of Community, “We had no hesitation about supporting the campaign to help find Matt a donor and holding two clinics on match days in December. The rugby community is close-knit, especially in a town like Northampton. For more details about the Matt’s Match Campaign visit www.mattsmatch.co.uk
