Following the PRA’s first Management Board Meeting of the 2007/08 season, the PRA is delighted to announce that David Barnes will remain in his role as Chairman for a further term. In light of his continued hard work on behalf of the PRA, there was unanimous support for Barnes from the Management Board. Barnes commented “I am very pleased to continue in my role as Chairman of the PRA. There are many challenges ahead for the Association, but also exciting opportunities and I am fully committed to ensure the welfare of the players, through the PRA, is at the forefront of the game over the coming years. The dedication of the players over the past decade in England has been outstanding and we must capitalize on this platform to protect and promote the interests of players in the future. I would also like to thank not only my fellow Board members for the support they have shown me, but also all the players from around the twelve Guinness Premiership clubs.” The 2007/08 season will also see the establishment of a new Vice-Chairman role, created to support Barnes in his role. “With the ever increasing workload of the Chairman, it is imperative that the PRA is represented in all rugby matters as effectively as possible and this new role has been created to offer that support to David and the PRA executive” stated, PRA CEO, Damian Hopley. Filling this position with immediate effect will be London Wasps scrum-half, Simon Amor. “With Simon’s previous experience at a number of Guinness Premiership clubs, as well as captaining the England Sevens side so successfully for a number of years, Simon is perfectly placed to continue making a significant contribution to the PRA as Vice-Chairman” added Hopley. The PRA Management Board consists of a representative from each Guinness Premiership club and the PRA Chief Executive, Damian Hopley.
